The Stencil Company was founded in 1985 as an exclusive distributor to both the retail and wholesale customer of standard, as well as original, quilting stencils. There are now over 2,000 designs in our catalog.
We add new designs each year in our effort to keep abreast of new design trends, as well as adding to our catalog of favorite traditional designs.
The stencils are made of a lightweight opaque blue or white plastic. The designs are channel cut, with small "bridges" that are there only to hold the design together- when using the stencils be sure to continue the design through these "bridges".
There are many different uses for our stencils:
Quilting
Transfer the designs to your quilt top using a removable marking tool like a washout pen or chalk pencil. Lay the stencil on your top and trace through all the lines. The rule of thumb for picking designs to fit your quilt top is to pick a design 1/2" to 1" smaller than your block or border. This will fill the space without crowding it.
Crafting
The stencils can also be used for crafts such as embroidery, beadwork, leather etc. Just like with quilting- trace the design on to your surface and use it as a guide to create your project.
Woodworking
Use the designs for your scrollsaw and woodburning projects. Transfer the designs to either paper or directly onto your project. With most scrollsaw projects you will want to keep those "bridges" in there.
Scrapbooking / Paperarts
Stencils can be used to decorate your scrapbook projects or use just the outline to make a die-cut look. While these are not traditional painting stencils, they can be used for your painting or crafting projects- just trace the design to the surface and paint the design in freehand.
Cake Decorating
Our stencils are also used by experienced cake decorators. Since the stencils are made out of a lightweight plastic they can be bent around corners and rounded shapes. Use the stencils as a guide to create your own beautiful designs.
